Sophie Gets a Real Stove, Refrigerator, and Shelving Unit!

Sophie was over the moon with her new kitchen and very grateful. She never even asked for any of these new kitchen appliances even though her new kitchen was practically empty.

We want to thank the very generous donors to Aid Africa’s Children for making this possible!

After seeing that Sophie was cooking 80-100 meals a day on 2 hot plates, many people were compelled to help her. People wondered how much more she could accomplish if she had a real stove.

It was Aid Africa’s Children who felt, if she could cook up a storm on 2 hot plates, think of what she could do with a real stove. We also felt Sophie was struggling to making ends meet with her refrigerator which had seen much better days.

Sophie’s brand new kitchen had a failing refrigerator, the door had to be propped up otherwise it had a tendency to fall off. The old refrigerator had survived many rainy seasons and was lucky it still worked thanks to the bricks underneath it.

The two hot plates wouldn’t work if rain dripped through the ceiling and landed on the coils. A back-up plan was always in place to build a fire outside, if necessary, so the children would have food to eat. Aid Africa’s Children also ordered a much needed durable vertical shelving unit built to her specifications for any kitchen storage including utensils and appliances.

Below listen to Sophie’s Kitchen video where she proudly displays the new refrigerator, stove and shelving unit in her new Creche Kitchen.

Hello LuAnn and everyone. This is the Fridge, this is steel cabinet, steel cupboard, and you can see how everything is sitting on it. Beautiful, neat, and all the dishes, our nice shining forks, everything is just completely in its place. Beautiful, beautiful.

This is our Baby, our stove, as you can see. Ellen is cooking on it, and she doesn’t have to wait on the 2 plate stove,
(the old two hot plates they cooked on for years) for one pot to be ready and then cook the next one.

She is cooking macaroni and tomato sauce. She is cooking two things all at once which makes things easier. And, she is cooking and cleaning the office in between. Because of this big stove she doesn’t have to wait around, to make sure the pot cooks. Remember, the 2 plate stove, was really slow, sometimes the children were picked up by the school transport, and went home hungry. This is handy. This is very handy.

And next week we are having our first, chicken baked, this Friday. Beautiful!

This list is the kitchen policy on how to keep the kitchen clean.
There is our little room, where we keep our stuff and lock it up at night, so it’s nice and safe.

Here is our beautiful beautiful fridge. Just look at that the children’s juices, and the children’s yogurt. I used to have problems with my fridge because my fridge was so small. And I was always so worried…
