In Her Own Words

“The first time it rained, once we got the new kitchen, I thought, I must go and save the food! And then, I realized I don’t have to anymore,” Sophie exclaimed.

After years of dreading the rainy season for fear of losing the little Creche food she had for the kids, the new kitchen that Aid Africa’s Children built for Sophie was a dream come true.

She often would have to wake up during the night and run to the kitchen and place buckets under the leaking roof. Her refrigerator was on bricks to protect it from the floods. And even though, the refrigerator door had fallen off, with a good push, it would stay close.

Here in her own words, Sophie describes the emotional life-changing effects of a new kitchen and appliances---a new refrigerator, her first stove/oven, and steel shelving unit generously donated by Aid Africa’s Children’s supporters. She describes how life at the Creche has dramatically changed for the better since the new kitchen arrived. Now, the two poles and rocks she used to support the broken kitchen roof from collapsing would now become a distant memory.

For one who has lived with so little, Sophie is extremely grateful for the generosity shown by Aid Africa’s Children. In Africa, the America dollar can go a long way towards improving life at the Creche.

Another topic close to her heart was the Soul Sparkles, the AIDS Orphans' support group Sophie founded. After seeing kids lose their parents with no support, she created a safe place to be welcomed, accepted and supported without shame.

Sophie invited everyone to South Africa to see how much their donations helped buy her new kitchen and thanked them.
