Move Over, Jackson Pollock!

The children at Sophie’s Creche recently discovered that marbles can make surprisingly good paintbrushes.

Sophie created this art activity for her kids to give them something different and creative to do. The teachers at the Creche ask Sophie "where do you get these ideas?” They playfully ask “do you come up with these ideas in your sleep?"

With paint, marbles, and plenty of movement Sophie’s idea for pre-schoolers are discovering their own version of their inner Jackson Pollock.

After dipping the marbles in different colors and placing them in a paper lined box, the kids shake the boxes vigorously to create one-of-a-kind art.

It’s art, movement, color and experimentation all rolled into one.

The results look like a pre-school action painting:  spontaneous, energetic and wonderfully unpredictable.

What’s action painting? It’s a abstract style of art where the physical act of making a painting—dripping, splashing, pouring, throwing or moving paint is part of the artwork process itself.

Jackson Pollock used drips and splashes.

At Sophie’s Creche, they use marbles!

Sometimes learning really is that much fun.
