Why Does Sophie want Shade Netting?

Every day, little ones laugh and play outdoors, often without protection from the intense heat and UV exposure.

For toddlers, shade netting is not a luxury but a necessity at Sophie’s Creche.

When heat waves hit Sophie’s Creche temperatures can exceed 85-90°F.

Students can over heat quickly in the direct sunlight. Sunburn can occur within 10-15 minutes.

These pre-schoolers are very vulnerable because their skin are thinner and more sensitive. Their bodies don’t regulate the heat as efficiently as adults. Without adequate shade, even short periods of outdoor play can become unsafe.

Extended playtime without shade under the direct sun, run the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and sunburn.

Repeated direct exposure increases cancer risks.

Shade netting is one of the most practical and affordable solutions offering protection from the strong African sun. It’s actually a UV-blocking mesh fabric, much like a tarp, that is stretched over the outdoor area to reduce sun exposure.

The importance of shade netting at the creche is to create a safer outdoor playtime for the children.
