Shade Netting Crew Arrives!
Exciting progress is underway at Sophie’s Creche!
This week, the shade netting project officially begins as the installation team arrive! They’ll be setting up support poles that will be cemented in the ground. These important first steps are laying the foundation for a wonderful improvement that will soon provide a much needed outdoor classroom for school and play activities.
While permanent shade netting is fairly common for private preschools, well funded independent schools, and suburban primary school, that’s not the case at Sophie’s Creche (nursery). Especially, in a rural area like Lethabong, Sophie's Creche does not have the luxury of running water, toilets, or air-conditioning that American schools take for granted.
That’s why getting a permanent shade netting structure is such a big deal.
For many community creches, permanent shade structures are a significant investment that is often beyond their financial reach.
Most creche shade strategies rely on trees, building shadows, temporary tarps or avoid scheduling outdoor activities at the hottest time of the day.
Shade netting, a UV blocking mesh fabric, will offer the kids at Sophie Creche, an outdoor classroom. This is where children can read, sing, dance, enjoy story time, play, eat, and learn in comfort. The shade netting project will provide a substantial upgrade to these activities throughout the year.
This will be significant change for pre-schoolers who can over heat quickly in the direct sun. The shade netting will create a protected area for toddlers who run the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and sunburn. Because of Aid Africa’s Children’s donors, we’re not just funding fabric and steel poles, we’re creating a healthier, more inviting learning and play environment the children will benefit from every day for years to come.
Thank you so much for your generous donations!
