Before and After... What a Difference!

Before the new shade netting was installed, the children gathered outside the kitchen wall to escape the strong sun.  It was one of the few places outdoors where they could find shade. Often, they would have to wait for the shade to arrive, so they could get relief from the heavy heat. 

Today, the picture looks very different.  

Pre-schoolers sit on their blankets under the shade netting and enjoy school activities, playing with toys or visiting one another. The shade netting provides a cooler temperature from the heat waves of Africa. It also shelters kids from the the intense sunshine clearly visible just a few feet away.

At Sophie’s Creche, the search for finding shade relief is no longer a priority. The new shade netting has opened a new era of safety, comfort and protection in a large outdoor area children and staff can  enjoy together. 

The royal blue netting may look like a simple addition to the creche, but underneath it is something very important: a protected place for childhood to happen.

As you can see in the video,  the children don’t need to be smiling for the camera. They’re doing something better—they’re just being kids hanging out under their new shade.
