Helping Pre-Schoolers Understand Their Five Sense

At Sophie’s Creche, toddlers learn to identify and explore their world in unique ways.

Watch five year old, Ncobile, whose name means, “she is victorious” teach the 5 senses of the body to her classmates.

Here, they are discovering how they experience life through their five senses—hearing, seeing, touching, tasting and smelling. These lessons don’t come from school books, but from

everyday moments.

These lessons come to life through activities at Sophie's Creche. During lunch the kids smell and taste their meals. When they listen to music, they often dance or sing to the songs. During their hygiene class, they learn how to take care of their bodies and develop good health habits early in life. With each sense they use and recognize, it becomes an opportunity to learn.

These small experiences are powerful.

Through the five sense, students begin to understand their environment. They learn to notice the differences, discover what they like and don’t like, what tastes good and what doesn’t, they learn to make connections and describe their experiences. It’s one of the first steps in building awareness, language, and communicating with others. It also builds confidence.

Here at Sophie’s Creche, understanding the world starts with meaningful experiences.
