Meet Three Very Special Friends

Sophie wrote a story about Healthy Teeth to introduce the children to the importance of brushing their teeth. The story was about three special friends—a toothbrush, toothpaste and a glass of water.

Through this tale of friendship, the children learn about a tooth with a toothache, and the importance of brushing their teeth every day to keep their teeth clean and healthy.

The tooth complains to his friend, the toothbrush that he is having pain.The toothbrush tells the tooth he will get his friend the toothpaste to see if he can help the crying tooth. When the toothpaste arrives and sees the hurt tooth, he explains needs to find his other friend, the glass and water to help with the situation.  

For children between 3-5 years old, stories are far more memorable than instructions. Instead of simply saying, “brush your teeth, Sophie created characters that the children can remember.  This exercise combines the importance of personal hygiene with health education, while developing listening and comprehension skills. 

Afterwards, the children traced and color the Healthy Teeth sheets. Here, they are practicing color recognition, strengthening fine motor skills, and while reinforcing an important lesson they will remember long after the colored pens are put away.
